americaReader comment on item: Living Freely in England a Century Ago Submitted by concerned (Italy), Jul 26, 2011 at 08:58 I'm glad for M. Tovey's comments and would only like to add that America, at that time as well as now, has been the one country willing and ready to take in the greatest number of people offering them hope and a fresh start in life. Not only is this true for the downcast and desperate, but there have been and still are many examples of middle-class people who would have done quite well in their own country of origin, but decided to come to America. As a result, they feel freer in every sense of the word and are glad for having thrown in their lot with our country.
