My answers on CyprusReader comment on item: Cyprus on the World Stage Submitted by Debanjan Banerjee (India), Nov 2, 2011 at 23:59 Cyprus was occupied by Richard the Lionheart primarily as a base of expansion into the Muslim lands and as a beachhead. After conquest , Richard later when he needed more money to fight his battles in Europe , decided to sell the Island to Guy the Lusignan , the official "King of the Crusaders" who owed his life to the gratitude of Sultan Saladin Ayubi after the battle of Hattin. Now this was the start of the so-called glorious rule of "Lusignan" dynasty in Cyprus which was nothing but a invading , occupying and usurping army on the local inhabitants of the Island. Some of the examples of "glorious" deeds of the "Lusignan" dynasty 1. Removing the authority of the Orthodox church and replacing it with that of the Catholic Church in that unfortunate country which was nothing but forcible refutation of the faith of the Cypriots. 2. Importing a large bunch of unwanted Venetians , Genoese , Franks and other groups of non-Cypriot colonists thereby forcibly demographic conquest of the Island. 3. Imposing a heavy tax burden upon the hapless and persecuted Islanders about whom some Pilgrim remarked that "the Cypriots are nothing but slaves to the Venetians". So now your position of Cypriot being a glorious , magnificent country under Lusignan dynasty is nothing but a hapless lie which I believe have successfully refuted. Regarding the assimilation of Muslims into Western society , please answer me this : 1. How many Crusaders assimilated to the Muslim culture when they invaded and occupied Jerusalem ? 2. How many Spaniards accepted the local faiths of Natives when they invaded America ? 3. How many Anglo-saxons assimilated when they conquered the Native Americans ? 4. How many French accepted the local norms when they colonized Algeria , Tunisia and IndoChina ? 5. How many Germans assimilated the local norms when they colonized Africa and later some parts of Poland ? 6. How many Americans did assimilate to the cultures of Philippinos when they invaded it ? 7. How many Americans have assimilated into the customs and cultures of Korea , Vietnam , Afghanistan and Iraq ? For that matter , how many Polish auxiliaries (that is the only thing that Poles have done throughout their history that is to be auxiliaries to any exisitng Western hegemon whether be the Roman Catholic Church or the allies in the Second World War) have assimilated into the local norms of the cultures in Afghanistan ? --- I never understood this matter why the Westerners consider us Orientals as... inferior and themselves superiors ? Is it because we are not as brighter and healthier than you ? Is it because you win more noble prizes than you ? The truth is that this superiority complex of the Western civilization has given birth to menaces such as Hitler and other horrors like Holocaust , Genocides of Natives in the new world and recently horrors like Abu Gharib and Guantanamo bay. I ask you what would take you Westerners to accept us Orientals as equals to you ?
