slayhy: Sharia is more than lessons in fifth grade morality lessonsReader comment on item: Canada's Muslims, Not of One Mind Submitted by Plato (India), Dec 17, 2011 at 09:41 Slayhy you write about Quran and Sunnah: 1."Believe in God the only God there is , the creator of the everything Quran: 23:72: (Yusuf Ali): Or is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance. [Who are these others who give sustenance??? Allah is admitting there are other sustainers but only claims he is the best among the other Allahs] 004.116 YUSUFALI: Allah forgiveth not (The sin of) joining other gods with Him; but He forgiveth whom He pleaseth other sins than this: one who joins other gods with Allah, Hath strayed far, far away (from the right). [This verse also shows Allah worrying that people will divide their attention between some other Allahs and him] When the Koran itself says there are many gods why should we believe in only one god? 2. Believe in the Angels of God Allah wants us to believe in other phantoms also like jinns and satan. 3. Believe in the scriptures of God (not corrupted) How many scriptures are there that are not corrupted and how does one distinguish between a corrupt one and a pristine one? 4. Believe in the Messengers of God (Being human and Angels) How does one know that a human is a messenger of god. In India many people claim to be messengers or even god herself/himself. Why should I not believe what they say. They even perform miracles (at least believers in them believe they do like Muslims believing the splitting of the moon by Allah on Muhammad's orders) "Narrated Anas: the people Mecca asked the prophet to show them a sign (miracle). So he showed them the cleaving of the moon." Bukhari 5. Believe in the Hereafter and resurrection day Many people believe in transmigration of the soul without believing in any hereafter. No one has come back from the dead to announce that there is a hereafter and resurrection day has not yet occurred so it would be foolish to believe in it. 6. Believe in destiny (Good or bad) A believer in destiny would have also to believe that he was a robot obeying some programme created by an entity beyond his knowledge. 7. Purify yourselves from dirt, uncleanness How can one purify oneself from dirt and uncleaniness? We are surrounded by all kinds of dirt. A bath will only keep your skin clean for a few minutes. Besides there is dirt all the time in your large intestines. Unless you have enemas every half hour you will be carrying inside you some faecal matter. And our blood always has urinary matter floating in it. You are asking for the impossible. Or are you referring to spiritual cleanliness? Does not a believer fantasise about the houris of paradise or the wines that do not intoxicate or give you a headache? 8. Obey God commands 009.029 YUSUFALI: Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. [Book 043, Number 7185: Sa'id b. Jubair reported: I said to Ibn 'Abbas about Sura Tauba, whereupon he said: As for Sura Tauba, it is meant to humiliate (the non-believers and the hypocrites). There is constantly revealed in it (the pronoun) minhum (of them) and minhom (of them, i. e. such is the condition of some of them) till they (the Muslims) thought that none would be left unmentioned out of them who would not be blamed (for one fault or the other)….. This is a command to fight unbelievers until they believe or pay a humiliation tax as the hadith makes clear. So are you going to fight us unbelievers and either convert us to Islam or humiliate us? 9. Be patient Be patient about what? 10. Be truthful Not even a liar will tell us to be untruthful 11. Strive (Jihad) to be better person Who does not want to be a better person? This is a childish exhortation not worthy of a god. 12. Do not Kill Really? Then why the lesser jihad. Why verse 9:29 quoted above? Why this verse: 009.073 YUSUFALI: O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell,- an evil refuge indeed. Allah is telling Muslims to fight unbelievers. (Please don't come back with that tired excuse of context and bad translation. It only makes things worse for it would mean that the Koran is an unclear message which can be easily misunderstood.) 13. Do not Lie Even a child knows that lying is bad. Does the great Allah have to tell his believers that lying is bad?? 14. Do not steal Read the answer to 13 above. 15. Do not call others with bad names Same comment as for 13 16. Do not abuse Your religion is beginning to sound like a third grade Moral studies class. But what does Allah do in the Koran but curse and abuse unbelievers. 002.161 YUSUFALI: Those who reject Faith, and die rejecting,- on them is Allah's curse, and the curse of angels, and of all mankind; 002.065 YUSUFALI: And well ye knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath: We said to them: "Be ye apes, despised and rejected." Allah is a sets a poor example as a non-abusive person. 17. Do not talk in the back of others (backbiters) See comment on 16 18. Do not hurt others, by your tongue, actions, on the road, behind their backs Which religion or culture approves of such transgressions? 19. Do not kill animals or cut trees for pleasure Great religions like Buddhism and Jainism said these things a thousand years before Islam. 20. Commit and fulfill your vows 21. Be good doer 22. Love your parents and obey them in what is good 23. Love thy neighbour 24. Deny evil and promote good 25. Have mercy on the weak 26. Have mercy on the poor 27. Be good to your wives, neighbors, next of kin 28. Keep contacts and help next of kin if necessary 29. Be charitable 30. Mend hatches between people, minimize enmity 31. Give justice to the oppressed 32. Don't be miser 33. Be generous first to your household then to your guests and then to all people. 34. Treat people well 35. Visit frequently next of kin, neighbors and the sick people you know. 36. Wear clean clothes 37. ….etc Who needs Allah to tell us these things. A child in fifth grade can give us better advice than this. If you still objection to values above, then I have nothing to say to you To appropriate human values that have guided us from time immemorial and claim it to be something unique to sharia takes the cake. But you are being less than honest in your claims, for sharia also involves the chopping off human limbs for pretty tame offences like stealing a shield, incarcerating women till they die for something for which men are let off with a mere warning. Sura IV 15( and 16) 004.015 YUSUFALI: If any of your women are guilty of lewdness, Take the evidence of four (Reliable) witnesses from amongst you against them; and if they testify, confine them to houses until death do claim them, or Allah ordain for them some (other) way. It also relegates half of humanity to mere appendages who must the obey the will of the other half. In his last sermon Muhammad called women prisoners (or animals – Tabari) under the control of men:"…God allows you to put them in separate rooms and to beat them but not with severity. If they refrain from these things they have the right to food and clothing with kindness. Lay injunctions on women kindly, for they are prisoners with you having no control of their persons." The Life of Muhammad by Ibn Ishaq (Sirat Rasul Allah) 004.034 YUSUFALI: Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance)….. The male half which treats the female half of humanity as slaves are themselves slaves of a phantom being conjured into existence to enslave them to a man's whims who claimed to be a prophet of this phantom.
