GeographyReader comment on item: Why Newt Gingrich Was Right about Palestinian History Submitted by Wahine (New Zealand), Jan 20, 2012 at 22:13 Hi - Josep Much as I agree that historically the Jews lived in Israel and it is their traditional home land you must never make an argument withouth getting your facts right. Israel in not in Arabia - never has been. It has always been in the Middle Eastern area known historically as the Levant ( coastal area north of Arabia and south of Turkey)known as Paestine when captured by the Roman and renamed as tthe Mandate of Palestine when captured by the British. I don't know if you are aware that the Ottoman Empire voluntarily joined the first world war with Germany one of the agreemenst being that Germany would give back the Balkan countries which had one by one fought their way out of the Ottoman Empire. By thet time the Ottoman Empire was known as the sick man of Europe due to famine and overpopulation with no industrial infrastructure to economically sustain it. The British and French begged them to stay out of the war but no - the Ottomans knew better and they lost. Their people still can't live with the fact that Islam is inferior to the west. Besides, why would the "palestinians" make peace, their leaders would lose all those billions they cream into their bank accounts and their people would wake up to the fact that they have been used in the greatest scam in centuries. many of those "palestinians" aren't even from that area - thousands of muslims from the surrounding countries caught on to the fact that the UN would give you the refugee "dole" based on the fact that you had an Arab name! This is apart from the thousands of muslims who had entered Israel illegally after WW1 as it was the only country where they could earn a living through the efforts the Jewish people who had made thrive economically - their own countries were still poverty stricken backwaters where literacy, medicine and hope of a decent life did not exist. That is one reason why they hate Israel - it makes the muslim countries look like what they are - backward and caught up in a system devised by a 7th century uneducated Arab who brought them nothing but war and ignorance. And they just cannot admit it even today when it is so obvious with what is happening all over the Islamic world.
