The coming dark age.Reader comment on item: The Arabs as Seen Fifty Years Ago Submitted by Asif W. (United States), Mar 6, 2012 at 12:22 Thinking of the coming decades gives me the creeps. With the return of Islam and its refusal to accommodate the Western value of 'Individual liberty' we are going to enter a dark age. So far we have witnessed two Islamic governments namely Iran and the Taliban, and now with the Arab 'Autumn' we anticipate full-fledged totalitarianism on a scale unseen since the Second world war. The only positive sign I've seen so far is in the hopes of the coming declining demographic transitions in the Islamic world. A 2007 book by a french demographer-researcher Emmanuel Todd: 'A Convergence of Civilizations: The transformation of Muslim societies around the world' suggests that perhaps the Islamic rise may not continue as previously anticipated. I hope Mr. Todd is right, my intuitive feeling is that he is not.
