" I wonder if such military purges are better in the long term in that it undermines the current Islamist government's ability to conduct war."

Debanjan : Dear Mr. Shishir military purges hardly do undermine any committed government's efforts in the war. History refutes you. Remember before the WWII J Stalin had purged almost half of top Red army officer corps including senior generals such as Marshall Tuckachevsky on ideological grounds. But it was the red army which managed not only to survive the onslaught of the Third Reich but ultimately erase the Third Reich from the pages of history almost single handedly.

Hahahahaha!"almost singlehandedly" ,yes almost singlehandedly if you discount the contributions of the allied powers of U.S and U.K which included the largest amphibious assault, the most sustained air campaign as well as well trained ground troops ! Honestly Debanjan ... Stalin's idiocy was matched by Hitlers idiocy by getting his troops bogged in the Soviet Union and that too in winter! No doubts the resilience, tenacity, courage and patriotism of the Soviet soldiers, however the victory over the Nazis came at a cost of millions of Russian lives foolishly squandered by Stalin.Had there been competent generals ,the scale of deaths wouldve been vastly reduced. Why do you think no one can name a Soviet general though names like Patton,Rommel,Yamamoto etc easily come to mind?

Debanjan:If you look at the current scenario , these generals have been charged with conspiring along side US and Israeli officials for overthrowing the elected Turkish government of the time. To me this is something which should be given serious investigation.

Im sure, the "investigation" courtesy of the kangaroo court will come up with "evidence" implicating them all the same! And dimwits like you will be the first to wholeheartedly believe it.

"The Iranian military machine was almost devastated when the Ayotollah foolishly dismissed many pro Shah officers thus inviting Saddam Hussein depredations.

"Debanjan : I must remind you that Iran survived any depredations that you allegedly speak of. Ultimately war is fought by human beings and not western-trained strategies or technologies.

This is one of the most idiotic and childish things I have heard! If thats the case the Iranians are more than welcome to ditch the Satanic "western technologies" and face the onslaught of U.S military power honorably with their scimitars! Debanjan, honestly you are a joke a minute, keep them coming!

Debanjan:The young Iranian commanders who cut their teeth in fighting Saddam are today's leaders.

Hahahahaha! Fighting Saddam!Indeed that was an incredible challenge!Read Norvelle Atkins essay on why Arabs lose wars on the utterly pathetic performance of Arab militaries. No single serious military observer is impressed by the Iranians resistance of Saddam Hussein.

Debanjan:That illustrious list includes people like Ayatollah Khamenei , Mohsin Rajei , Mehmud Ahmedinajad etc. However the Iraqi regime is no more. Saddam is gone. So ultimately Iran did not got devastated as much as you say from eliminating the Shah order. My request to you is read and observe history very carefully before you take up the pen.

Debanjan,Im sorry to say ... ,rather than imploring me to read history, you should consider THINKING before you write.I NEVER stated a nation would certainly be destroyed due to poor military decisions. The Iranians had a good 15 years to recover from the war while Iraq suffered two wars and 12 years of sanctions which devastated its ability. Its not the Iranian military might that enabled it quasi takeover of Iraq but its terrorist proxies and the blunders of Bush and Obama. As even you will note, this has been achieved without any invasion of Iraq by Iran but infiltration, sabotage and subterfuge. This can work in a neighboring country with a war weary populace(Shia) receptive to its machinations but would hardly augur well elsewhere!

In passing, I will note as per the title of this post,I would strongly urge to get a non paid position as an advisor to these gangster regimes, we can certainly use a guy like you, on the other side!
