This is a tough one.Reader comment on item: Chris Christie's Islam Problem Submitted by John W. McGinley (United States), May 1, 2012 at 12:07 This is a tough one. I was not aware of Christie's implied approval for the backgrounds and activities of certain Muslim figures. I'm tempted to say that whatever is good for Joe Lieberman is good enough for me and is good enough for Governor Christie. Politics is Politics and "double pandering" is widespread. But when certain lines are crossed "double pandering" looks just cynical. His critique of Ray Kelly's program of surveillance of certain Muslim groups may be crossing the line. The program does not violate anyone's rights for freedom of assembly and freedom of speech. This kind of surveillance is necessary. It doesn't violate the Law and it is in the service of avoiding an announced threat against the people of the United States. Are you in a position to get someone to ask Governor Christie to comment on some of these matters publicly? That would help me to get a better focus on a man whom I have admired for some time.
