HOW DISPIRITING!

Reader comment on item: Romney vs. Obama vis-à-vis Israel

Submitted by john w mcginley (United States), Sep 4, 2012 at 16:03

Full disclosure: I was one of those fools who got carried away with that Orator. By September of 2008 I was getting intimations, here and there, that his orator was a fraud and potentially a bad omen both for our country and for Israel. But my enthusiasm drowned out my intimations. Indeed, after Obama won I would actually be condescending -- even to some of my children who were smarter than me as it turns out -- to those who voted for McCain. \

Early on in his presidency two things started to wake me up. First was his returning the bust of Winston Churchill. More significantly was his gross discourtesy to Prime Minister Netanyahu, keeping him waiting in the antechamber of the White-House while the Obama's, ceremoniously dined leisurely on their dinner while Netanyanhu was waiting. It wasn't long after than that I realized that roughly 53% of the electorate had made a HORRIBLE mistake.

As usual, your sense of detail is very helpful. This orator is a true danger to both our country and to Israel. Your point about a second Obama term is well taken. I am not the first to say it, but it remains true: The 2012 election could become what some have designated as the "tipping point" for our American democracy. Think of Athens circa 410 bce. It was already in a downward spiral and circa 410 was about the last chance for Athens. 2012 is America's time. And guess what? If I had money to bet I would bet that Obama will win. and frankly, that's the whole ball of wax. It is very depressing.

And here is something else. It is well known that the Obama Administration has refused to provide the KIND of "bunker-busters" to Israel which could do the job on the main facility in Iran which is close to achieving nuclear capability. In other words, Israel could make a strike; suffer incredible retaliation from Khamas, Hezbollah, and even from Iran; and STILL be faced with nuclear annihilation. The unthinkable is now thinkable. Israel does have nuclear options which COULD do the job. Hiroshima and Nagasaki? The horror. Yet the net horror of NOT doing what Truman ordered would have been worse for all involved. This is a nasty world we live in. There are no good options for Israel if the USA continues to be led by Obama. In general, our human situation is the sad situation wherein the lesser evil is the ONLY good. God help us all. But I will say this. If Israel disappears from our world, it will only be a short amount of time before humanity itself disappears.
