SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF DEMOCRATS REMAIN PRO-ISRAELReader comment on item: Romney vs. Obama vis-à-vis Israel Submitted by LAWRENCE WINANS (United States), Sep 6, 2012 at 22:53 I am a lifelong Democrat and I remain pro-Israel. 45 years ago I organized dissenting Democrats opposed to the Vietnam War on my campus and I also volunteered to go to Israel when it was under attack in the Six-Day War (Fortunately, for me and Israel, they didn't need my help). It pains me to read constantly in the media that one is now expected to be a Republican if one supports Israel. In the U.S., domestic politics determines one's political affiliation, the Republican stand on civil rights, economic justice, women's rights and science makes me a Democrat, that won't change. Frankly, I have spoken to many "Left Behind" Christian Zionists who only support Israel because they think God tells them to do so in order to convert the Jews before the apocalypse. "They" don't really support Israel, they support a character in an Endtimes play who they call Israel. I urge those who support Israel to avoid entanglement in domestic American politics. Counter those who are opposed to Israel but don't be used as a stooge for political interests which promise anything to serve themselves.
