Never!Reader comment on item: Netanyahu Again Offers the Golan Heights to Syria? Submitted by AKUS (United States), Oct 14, 2012 at 17:46 If there is one part of Israel I would never give away it is the Golan. I would sooner give away parts of the West Bank and Jerusalem Anyone who ever fought in the Yom Kippur War, or was in Israel at that time, will remember the utter fear that gripped the country as Syrian forces advanced on the Galil and were only stopped by the most amazing bravery of the IDF forces there, especially a tiny force of tankists (Koach Zvika) whose feats rank with the Spartans at Thermopylae. The Golan has been annexed by Israel, should never be given away by Israel, has historical ties going back to biblical time with Israel, and must be never be given to the maniacs in Damascus. In any event, no matter what Bibi (or Barak before him) cook up, the decision now has to undergo an referendum, and I cannot believe a majority could be found for this insanity.
