Hagel's statementsReader comment on item: The Hagel Nomination: An Open Letter to Sen. Charles E. Schumer Submitted by Nick (United Kingdom), Feb 23, 2013 at 05:21 "We now know that he referred to Israel's self-defense in 2006 as a "sickening slaughter." That he preposterously stated in 2007 that "The State Department has become adjunct to the Israeli Foreign Minister's office." That he obnoxiously said in 2010 (according to a paraphrase) that Israel was "risking becoming an apartheid state." - There is nothing preposterous, or obnoxious or bizarre about any of these statements. Hagel is 100% on each and every count. You quote him as if these statements are somehow self-evidently preposterous or obnoxious when in fact they are not so at all. I support Hagel and Chuck Schumer and am 100% convinced and delighted he will be confirmed.
