Peace Through Prosperity - A Myth - Even for Aspirations of UmmahReader comment on item: Must Islamists Be Autocratic? Submitted by M. Tovey (United States), Jul 23, 2013 at 19:12 Unfortunately for Turkey, the land and eventually the people became immersed with Europe in ways history tells us was a natural progression; yet we see today the circumstances foretell that not all that much will have changed when European influences will have placed Turkey once again at the crux of a world-wide conflict, very much like the crusades of a thousand years ago. That Turkey does appear to embrace statism is in the undertones of a society that at the same time is Muslim for its religious influences, but is also secularist for the perceived financial advantages that Europe offers. Conversely, not all Americans, even as this reader has previously observed, is all that infatuated with the unraveling that seems to be Candidate Obama's agenda in unsportsmanlike political conduct. Were it merely government overspending that was America's only problem, the world might not find itself targeted in a process that appears to spell global doom if left unchecked. No, Turkey is not going to be left out; its timing in the greater scheme of things is merely half a lifetime behind Syria's and the prognosis is not at all that good; and not all 'westerners' are convinced that world peace through democracy is around the corner.
