Elected Politicians and IslamReader comment on item: What's True Islam? Not for the U.S. Government to Say Submitted by Prashant (United States), Aug 30, 2013 at 18:14 Dear Dr Pipes, you and you readers (including me) express our displeasure and wonderment when our elected leaders consider their duty to paint Islam in the best possible light. I think our leaders are not entirely dumb and opinionless. Their hands might be tied behind their backs and if we were to be sitting in their chairs, we might also be forced to paint Islam in the best possible light. Most of the OPEC is Islamic. I think how much a country praises Islamic nations, is a function of how much oil they need. This is particularly true about the leaders in the developing societies. Most of these countries are poor and they need oil at the cheapest possible price. So their leaders have no choice but to praise Islamic countries and Islam. . Add to that the fact that most of the developing countries have sizable Islamic populations. Muslim populations vote brainlessly with the single goal of protecting Islamic interests. Our politicians need Muslims vote to stay elected. .. I think that for these two reasons freedom loving people cannot depend on their governments to oppose Islam. The battle against Islamism will have to be fought by individuals around the world. Freedom loving people will have to stand up and oppose every place where Islamism threatens the cause of freedom. That is the only escape route. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
