African-Americans and IslamReader comment on item: Islam and Bebop Jazz Submitted by Tony (France), Dec 30, 2013 at 00:39 It always seemed a bit odd to me that any self-respecting African-American would willingly embrace a "religion" whose adherents were initially and largely responsible for selling black Africans as slaves to white European and American explorers hundreds of years ago. Indeed, if you go to the State Department's and Wikipedia's websites, they both indicate that slavery of black Africans by Arab slave-masters still exists today in 2013 on the continent of Africa. You can google "Tauregs and slavery" to start your search. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_slave_trade https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_contemporary_Africa http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2013/02/14/mali-slavery/1920579/
