Wanted: Islam Savvy Leader

Bush and Obama, like so many decent people, are limited in their understanding of Islam. I find them hard to take, with Bush's "religion of peace" and platitudes about democracy for the "Iraqi people". The pandering and platitudes have only gotten worse under Obama, from his Cairo speech to his administration's taboo on frank discussions of Islam and terrorism in federal agencies.

Maybe some day we'll elect a leader who has done his homework, understands Islam enough to make constructive criticisms, and can come up with a foreign policy that is both realistic and compelling.
