Iraq nuclear drive?Reader comment on item: The Afghan War's Dismal End; Blame Bush Too Submitted by PezDispenser (Israel), Jun 1, 2014 at 12:48 Dr. Pipes - You neglect to mention that one positive development of the Iraq war was the end of the existing and any future Iraqi nuclear drive. It doesn't take a genius to believe that the first thing Saddam and sons would have done after exiting rogue state status and getting back on the oil export network (thanks to France) would be to rapidly rebuild their nuclear program to keep up with the Iranians. We see that nobody wants to touch the Iranian program and in this cynical world there would be similar arguments for letting Saddam's Iraq serve as a nuclear counterweight. Overall though, I sadly agree with your conclusions. In the case of the wars, the NY Times crowd was right for the wrong reasons (i.e. "war for oil!" and other nonsense), even though they are always wrong on Israeli-Arab affairs.
