HypocrisyReader comment on item: Forty Years after the Invasion of Cyprus Submitted by Kuvayi Milliye (Turkey), Aug 3, 2014 at 11:19 Turkey never expressed a wish to annex Cyprus. The military intervention in 1974 was the outcome of hostility, violence and ethnic cleansing policies of Greek Cypriots. Historical and political events can not be considered based on the result. It was not Turkey that changed the regime of the united Cyprus with undemocratic methods such a military coup. Nationalist ambitions of Greek Cypriots such as Enosis, based on the Akritas plan. The plan which was based on the annihilation of the entire Turkish Cypriot population from the island just in one night. As a result, if Turkey did not intervene, now you wouldnt have a subject to discuss such as a so-called invasion because there would not be any Turkish Cypriot population left in Cyprus. When it comes to dead Muslims, it is just history but if the matter is dead Christians, it is always refreshed and used as a political material. Greeks and Armenians murdered 5 million Turks until 1922 in various wars. Real history and archive documents prove who tried to genocide whom under which circumstances. The same goes for Cyprus too. It was always Turkey that worked for a fair and reasonable solution in Cyprus. But by using the advantage of EU membership, it was always the Greek Cypriot side that sabotaged the peace and solution process. Merkel's statement about accepting south Cyprus to EU being a mistake proves it. Former Cypriot president Klerides also confessed that it was always them who slowed down, manipulated, barricaded the solution process. Turkish Cypriots voted for yes to Annan plan, but former president Papadopoulos and the butcher of EOKA, appeared on TV one day before the voting and told Greek Cypriots to say no with tears in his eyes. Being the spoilt child of the West, the EU member "Cyprus" is nothing but a bankrupted, economic hunchback now which has no use or contribution of any kind to the union besides being a problem. The latest example of Anastasiadis losing his temper and punching the table like an angry, spoilt child proves that Greek Cypriots never actually wished for a real solution. For them, their Megali Idea delusion is still fresh and if they had a chance, they would launch another Akritas plan today. Killing every Turk they can find, is the traditional, historical policy of Greeks and Armenians when they got the upper hand. It is not just a claim but I can also prove it. As a result, you can not debate history and politics by promoting a one sided interpretation which victimizes one side and demonizes the other. Turkey has a right to be in the island to protect Turkish Cypriots. That is why, it is not an invasion but only the guarantee of peace. Since Turkish military stepped foot on Cyprus, there has been no violence and bloodshed. That proves the words of former prime minister Ecevit when he said, "we are going to Cyprus to not only bring peace to the Turks, we are going there also to bring peace to the Greeks".
