%35 of cyprus is not greek land now :-)Reader comment on item: Forty Years after the Invasion of Cyprus Submitted by servet cevik (Turkey), Oct 2, 2014 at 04:48 it seems some people have difficulty understanding what they read... and some people insist on understanding just the opposite of what i write due to their ideological eye glasses.. what i said was "cyprus had never been ruled by the cypriot greeks themselves as an independent state. " they have always been RULED by some EXTERNAL power. they lack the adequate conditions for existing as a seperate political entity. the cypriot greeks could never setup their own state on this island ever. i have no objection if greek cypriots want to unite with their motherland greece. i think this would be the wisest and best decision for them, provided that we also get our 1/3 share. everyone would be happy. not only the turks, EVERYONE has invaded and enslaved them. so it is best for them if they unite with greece. they can not exist like this as a seperate state. they are so small and weak. other hellenic or semi hellenic states ruling cyprus was their best times. they were not independent but were at least part of a state of their own kin. if azerbaijan (another turkish state) invades and rules current turkish republic i would not really mind and i would not oppose it since i would still be living under a turkish authority. as a reply for prashant; dear prashant i do not believe in any land belonging to any one. as i wrote before "every country on earth exists simply because at that specific period on that specific geographical location that specific large group of people (nation) is defending that territory with gunpower" so no land belongs to anyone. every land belongs to whom that can hold onto it. "god !!!" has not distributed any land ownership certificate to any group. so stop calling this and that part of earth as the country of this and that. it simply is the country of who is holding it right now. whether you like it or not this is the simple and bitter truth. once you date a girl does not make her your woman for your life time. she simply belongs to the man who loves and protects and holds her hand now. i never said "some land once owned by muslims for some time, makes it muslim land ever" just the opposite i am not muslim and do not think any land belongs to any one by either a divine or a natural right. i think that some land is only owned by someone just by sheer power. so now istanbul is a turkish city. constantinople is a long gone dream of the greeks. in the future if they can kick our ass and get it back than it will be again constantinople and istanbul will be our long gone dream. and similarly if bulgarians or romanians or norvegians or japanese get this city it will be theirs and both istanbul and constantinople will be gone dreams. no territory is someone's land.
