Oh please!Reader comment on item: Washington Finally Gets It on Radical Islam Submitted by Bruno (Italy), Apr 27, 2005 at 16:08 I think the idea of reshaping islam is the naivest thing I have heard in years.Sorry for sounding haughty, however I think the only results will be some scorn and ingratitude. Why should Islam become reformed because of some American money? European reform of Christianity took the real will of many people, as well as much blood and years of sincere efforts by people inside Christendom to become reality. Still today Christianity is seriously divided over reforms. The transformation of Christianity from theocratic to solely spiritual took almost two thousand yeras, a couple of revolutions, one of which was as bloody as it was possible. Some foreign aid won't turn a mammoth of theocracy into a reformed, modern religion. There are lessons to be learned from looking at the situation in Europe after April 1945. Even here the Marshal plan didn't keep much of the European youth from becoming community and strongly anti-American, even thought they had grown up in a relatively comfortable environment, thanks also to American relief. Young European activists after May 68 scorned the Marshall plan as a plot to corrupt Europe and a propaganda weapon, which gave Europe much less than the Soviet paradise could provide. All that American money fell only partly on American friends. The Communists didn't mellow or budge an inch.
