Atheists in Saudi Arabia!Reader comment on item: Saudis Bristle at Obama's Outreach to Iran Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jan 23, 2015 at 13:30 Hi yonason I wrote "...many Arabs are questioning their sheikhs and poking fun at them so stay tuned" And this was your response Since I don't read Arabic (or Farsi, or other), I can't follow them in real time as it were, but I'm glad others like yourself are doing that. But "questioning" and "poking fun" on line aren't a substitute for action against the very many bad actors who run amok unopposed, like these, and these. I understand your skepticism. However what I see these days in the Arabic language web would not have existed even 10 years ago. Now we have atheists in places like Saudi Arabia and not just in very cosmopolitan Cairo and check this twitter site by Asateer al-Awaleen https://twitter.com/genuineagnostic And check his second post and what he did he is responding to the strange Quranic challenge of "Sura like it" where the author of the Qur'an tells the readers of the Qur'an that no one can write anything as eloquent as the Quranic text and what the poster does he responds to the challenge and the outcome is excellent Arabic which debunks the Quranic challenge And here is another atheist from Saudi Arabia and his account was cancelled by twitter becuase many Muslims were "offended" by his posts but he is back and as good as ever https://twitter.com/shikhaalbadi And these are only two examples. This does not mean that the Arabs are leaving Islam but there is something happening in the Middle East is regard to Islam and may be Dr Pipes is correct that Muslims will fix Islam and no one can do it for them and the outcome will be a more tolerant islam Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
