The wannabe theologian John BrennanReader comment on item: Prominent Non-Muslims Decide What Islam Is and Is Not Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Mar 17, 2015 at 13:25 Dr. Pipes The logic of our President and our VP and now John Brennan is flawed. Logic dictates that if the members of Da'ish believe that they act according to doctrines in islam then these doctrines must exist in Qutb al-Fiqh al-Islami so all Brennan needs to do is to tell his pals in SA to go after these doctrines and declare them null and void once and for all but what he is suggesting is that we hide our heads in the sand and hope that all will be OK As for his command of Arabic: he lived and worked in the Middle East for 30 years and his Arabic is terrible. And for any Arabic speaker here is a video from 2010 where he speaks a few sentences in Arabic! It is very hard to believe that he lived in the Middle East for 30 years https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VQbAhqHoAo What is most amazing is that the Arabs are real nice people and when someone like him speaks this horrible Arabic Arabs would switch to English in-order to avoid embarrassing his likes One final point: He also was quoted as saying that Islam is a tolerant religion and he quotes Q2:256 or the infamous: La Ikrah fi Al-Deen or the no compulsion in religion so he is pretending to be a theologian and historian I will leave the history and the theology behind Q2:256 in the 10th century (third century of Islam) as well as in our modern times to a real historian who has great command of theology in islam and that is Patricia Crone and here is her take on Q2:256: "No Compulsion in Religion Q2:256, in medieval and modern interpretation." https://www.hs.ias.edu/files/Crone_Articles/Crone_la_ikraha.pdf And for readers is short and as any thing in Islam the answer is: there is the Yes and the No and the may be and the only Allah knows In other words no one has a clue
