A very simple tool that can establish what Islam is

Dear Dr Pipes,

you have cited scores of non-Muslim people and politicians as they try to distinguish between the ISIS and Islamic ideologies even though ISIS claims that it is fighting for the cause of Islam and no substantial opposition to ISIS has come from Islamic world. In fact, we have seen Muslims from every corner of the world trying to go and fight for ISIS.

The prominent people that you cited will say whatever makes them look good whether or not they believe that it is true. And who among us can know the truth? How would we know if many Muslims hate ISIS or if most Muslims are ISIS sympathizers?

There is a simple tool that can very cheaply determine once and for all if most Muslims are ISIS sympathizers or not. Currently that tool is severely underutilized. This tool is called a candle. If in some city square in one of the Islamic countries a simple man or woman goes to the city square and lights a candle under a true in sympathy with the innocent Londoners who were killed during the last three weeks and if a crowd assembles around that candle and if the crowd grows and grows and grows, we will know that most Muslims are not ISIS sympathizers. This is what Muslims need to do.
