Terrorism in the Qur'an in Q8:60 and many Islamists are proud to be called terroristsReader comment on item: I Give Up: There Is No Terrorism, There Are No Terrorists Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jun 23, 2015 at 07:43 Dr Pipes I do understand your point. However the author of the Qur'an tells us شهد شاهد من اهلها or if you let us say want to know what is the meaning of the word terrorism then ask a witness from among his people in other words check and see what the Qur'an says and what the Arabs tell us And indeed terrorism makes it to Q8:60 and the word terrorism is ارهاب or Irhab and the word terrorist is ارهابي or Irhabi and in Q8:60 we have the word ترهبون or you (plural) terrorize and all three words belong to the root ر ه ب So what do al-Mufasereen tell us about terrorism in the Qur'an? al-Tabari provides the most extensive examination of the verse. However tafseer al-Jalalayn provides a very short version of what al-Tabari tells in several pages and the Quranic word ترهبون or Turhibuun or terrorize is defined as تخوفون or to scare. So who is to be terrorized? The verse tells us: The enemies of Allah and your enemies Tafseer al-Jalalayn provides us with the answer and these are the groups to be terrorized 1. كُفَّار مَكَّة Or the pagans of Mecca 2. وَآخَرِينَ مِنْ دُونهمْ" Or others besides them which means for Sunni Muslims the Shia can be terrorized 3, أَيْ غَيْرهمْ وَهُمْ الْمُنَافِقُونَ Here al-Jalalyan tell us that others means the hypocrites which can be anyone Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists and the Shia and the Yazidis etc... 4. أَوْ الْيَهُود And not surprisng in the least The Jews Now we know the how to terrorize and why to terrorize and who is to be terrorized What is not surprising in the least is that most Islamists have no difficulty being called terrorists again because of Q8:60 and here is a video by Sheikh Abd Allah Azam where he declares ليعلم الشرق والغرب اننا ارهابيون or let the east and west know that we are terrorists and here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWRtUxPVxiU It is his likes that should define for us what is really Islamic terrorism so why should we deny Islamists to be called terrorists when this is what the Qur'an tells them to be Submitting....

Daniel Pipes replies: Interesting discussion but to terrorize is a general term and "terrorism" has acquired a pseudo-legal definition that I find contorts the discussion, so I have abandoned it.
