On the other hand, if the nuclear deal is not killed by the Iranian leadership, does that mean we might take it as a hopeful sign that pragmatism is making some headway against ideological purity? Some of the arguments I have heard articulated against the agreement by Israeli and American opponents are based on the premise that Iran's clerical leaders are irrational to the point of being suicidal, therefore no military deterrent on earth could stop them from using a nuclear weapon against Israel, should they obtain even one.
