Unsound logicReader comment on item: If Tehran Turns Down the Nuclear Deal Submitted by Anon (United States), Aug 29, 2015 at 16:44 If the Supreme Leader makes the calculation that the nuclear deal is not good for the regime's long term survival then it negates popular conservative wisdom that Iran wants to "wipe Israel off the map". A regime cannot simultaneously be hell bent on long term survival as well as the destruction of Israel. That logic just does not hold. In the long run, Israel and Iran will be allies - they have too many common enemies and there is no mutual hate among the people and even the mischief perpetrated by the Iranian regime against Israel is mainly because it cannot hurt the US and Israel is the closest proxy. It is quite unfortunate that poor Israel has to pay for the past sins committed by America and Britain (e.g. deposing Mossadegh or arming Saddam in the Iran-Iraq war). It is not apparent right now but the US making peace with Iran will go a long way in reducing tensions between Iran and Israel and Iran is the best ally when it comes to fighting ISIS - which is the greatest evil in the history of mankind. It is time the US moved firmly in that direction so that ISIS and all the other real rogues in the middle east (basically all the barbaric medieval Islamic countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Yemen etc) are dealt with firmly.
