I thought the Indian family were killed in 1986

I was living in the community of University Place, Washington when a family that I thought was from India were murdered during the month of August-and forgive me my memory might be wrong but I am/was pretty sure it was in 1986. I lived about three blocks from the family and I was outside in the yard in the evening not too long before dark when I heard what I thought was a lot of fireworks going off. I recall thinking to myself why would there be fireworks going off a month after the July 4th holiday. I remember going down the street to run an errand the next day when I notice police had blocked off a section of the neighborhood. I'm almost sure it was the same family here but I thought it was 1986.

I do recall hearing that police could not come up with suspects, or that they were being somewhat mum about the case, then a few years later I read that there was some sort of connection to Vancouver, Canada and maybe overseas culprits. I remember the house that the family lived in was vacant for a long time then it sold on the market. I always wondered if the buyer(s) knew the history of the house.
