USS Stark, Persian Gulf 1987

I was serving on the Royal Navy frigatte HMS Broadsword in the Persian Gulf when the Stark was hit. The pain felt by us towards fellow mariners was immense.

We too were locked on by an aircraft but this time it was by an Iranian one as we sailed through the Straits of Hormuz with our convoy. When I called this information out we locked our weapon radars onto him and eventually the plane altered course. If only this had happened with the Stark.

What annoys me a bit is the fact that people talk about the two Gulf wars. Sorry, but there were three ... and we were there first.
