MARSEILLESReader comment on item: Muslim "No-go Zones" in Europe? Submitted by Mashall Lundberg (United States), Dec 3, 2015 at 10:00 On a 9-day ship visit to Marseilles in 1965, I was assigned as one of two Shore Patrol Officers during that visit. The "Arab Quarter" as it was called in that day, was a place that the local gendarmerie described as not being a spot where one of us should be found after sundown. My experience was similar to what you described in that when I went there in the company of a local businessman ... and not in uniform ... it was uneventful. I went in with all of my antennae up, but nothing happened. The "Go Home, Yankee" graffiti was abundant, but I was simply another visiting "schlep."
