I agree completely with your comment and find that it is supported by Islamic scholars such as Syed Qutb Shaheen in his book "Milestones" that I highly recommend one read as it is the book most commonly found on captured and dead Islamic insurgents. We found so many I had to find an English translation and found a ebook version. It clearly outlays Islamic history, timeline, and where they currently are on that timeline.
