Dear Dr Pipes,

You are very right when you say that it is not enough to recite texts because history also counts. Indeed there may be many Muslims who do not literally follow Islamic texts and we should never ignore the presence of such Muslims. But I think it will be safe to assume that percentage of Islamic population that is willing to firmly disregard religious text when it violates secular ethics is much less than the percentage of such people in other religions.
