I hope it stays dead longer than the othersReader comment on item: ISIS is Collapsing Submitted by Michael S (United States), Apr 20, 2016 at 01:22 Hello, Daniel 1. The Taliban were swept out of power in Afghanistan i 2001. with very little effort from the US and its allies. Today, 15 years later, they made a deadly attack in the very center of Kabu, and control 20% of the country. 2. Authoritarian, rebel governments can last a long time. The Vietnamese Communist Party was fighting the Japanese around 1941; after they left, they fought the French, then the Americans. We predicted their demise many times; tut by 1975 they occupied the entire country, and they are still in power. The founder, Ho Chi Minh, died of natural causes in a good old age. If ISIS is dead by the end of 2016, I hope it stays deal longer than these others. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
