Dear Prashant, I notice that there are 10 supporters of your view. But Dr. Daniel Pipes did not (yet) respond to you. So I will do so myself.

I am guessing from your name what your heritage is and want to compliment you by calling you a Zero. I am a resident of Manhattan where I meet Taxi Drivers who hail from the Indian Subcontinent, and I often teach them (I'm also a teacher) that the Number Zero was invented by the Hindus (on India, the Continent). But it was brought to the West by the Muslim Arabs when Europe was still in its Middle Ages. After that lesson, I go on to point out that the 3 countries of Indian are divided by Religion, Hindu and Muslim - and that therefore they should love one another as from the same family.

Now about the Morons of Dr. Daniel Pipes' definition - I think at least one individual reading this article has an inadequate knowledge of history - except perhaps though coffee shop conversations. Although Jesus was not a Warrior like Muhammad, the other Prophets of Judaism (the Old Testament) were practitioners of War and Warmongering in the name of God. In that sense, you should not attack the religion of Islam which changed under the Ottoman Empire, and also produced Sufism.

Another oversight on your part regards the later phenomena of the Roman Empire, the Crusades, the Protestant Reformation, the Renaissance, the Enlightenment Colonialism, Imperialism, Industrialism, Communism, Racism (Untouchables?), and Globalization, just to name a few. You are of course permitted to criticize Religion, but do not overlook Tolerance.

Dr. Daniel Pipes is extremely well versed in History, and I strongly recommend that you read at least one of his many books, and then you understand what he means between the modern phenomena of Islamism, and the Muslim religion as it existed especially before World War One.

The Muslim in Spain, as well as those in what is now Anatolia, the Turkish Heartland (and the base of Ottoman Empire) were far more tolerant of Christians and Jews, than the other way around. 1492 was the year Columbus discovered America; but it was also the year that the Sephardi Jews were expelled from Spain but given permission to settle in the Muslim Ottoman Empire.

For you to understand Dr. Daniel Pipes you should read his books which are particularly focused on Western Asia, which the home of the Arabs, former Ottoman Empire. It is only by doing this not so easy reading that you will understand the distinction incorporated into his Neologism which falls under the term "Islamism" and which introduces us to the rise of an Ideology that was born in 1928 when Sunni Egyptian Arab schoolteacher, Hassan al Banna, founded the Muslim Brotherhood.
