More pessimism is warranted re Islamism in EuropeReader comment on item: Future Surprises that Could Shock the World: A Symposium Submitted by Lorna Salzman (United States), Jan 14, 2017 at 18:45 Can you definitively rule out an all out (i.e. not stealth) war in Europe? Bombing of churches and important cathedrals for one, or government buildings and universities..... True, right now the terrorism is being carried out by individuals or small groupings of them. But how many of them are there on the whole continent? If there were a significant number, they could coordinate major terrorist acts in a particular country (such as France). Isn't it possible there is wider coordination going on right now across Europe? What is the likelihood of France doing a country wide sweep of Muslim homes, mosques and communities for weapons and ammunition? Or would this be considered too totalitarian and invasive of privacy? I happen to think this is the only and best way of preventing future terrorist acts given the large Muslim population already living in Europe. Get rid of the weapons. I am appalled at the lackadaisacal attitude in Europe where Islamists on watch lists are just let go.
