This is much bigger than Donald Trump, or any leader.Reader comment on item: Future Surprises that Could Shock the World: A Symposium Submitted by Michael S, Jan 17, 2017 at 18:32 Hello, Marlan You have certainly described the TRAJECTORY or Islamism in Euorpe, while at the same time noting that Donald Trump might change the direction of things. I don't believe that Donald Trump, or any world leader, can suddenly change the course that Islamism is headed on. A few days ago, I had it explained to me this way: Islam is undergoing a Reformation, similar to the Christian Reformation of the 1500s. In both cases, people are turning from centuries of rule by religious leaders who have become corrupt and otherwise disappointed the masses. Those religious leaders have, for centuries, neglected the teaching of the original scriptures (the Bible and Qur'an, respectively), substituting traditions which, in many ways, do not resemble the original. The Christian Reformation led to "Early New Testament Church" movements, a return to fundamentals and the abandonment of varying amounts of traditional practices. The Muslim Reformation, likewise, has led to "Early Islamism", the world-conquering teachings of Muhammed. The Christian Reformation was marred by extended periods of warfare and civil strife, most notoriously the Thirty Years' War, in which perhaps the German population died. The Islamic Reformation has followed a similar course. Eventually, the Protestant Reformation degenerated into apostasy from Christianity altogether: The parts of Germany that had supported Luther and the reforms became the heartland of National Socialism and Adolf Hitler; Russia and its neighbors embraced atheism and Stalinist Communism, which later spread to take over China, North Korea, Laos, Cambodia and Cuba. At present, Western Europe and America are in the throes of politically correct confusion, having rejected their former moral underpinnings. If that is what happened to Christianity, which was based on the teachings of one who advocated peace and love, can we expect something better from the adherents of the violent, despicable Muhammed? Daniel Pipes is right, in expecting that Islam is undergoing and will continue to undergo a change; but I do not expect any phase of that change to be for the better. This is much bigger than Donald Trump, or any leader. Trump will do well, to influence the direction of Europe and America; but changing Islam would require centuries -- and at that, it would probably not be for the better.
