Optimism or a mere pipe dream?Reader comment on item: Future Surprises that Could Shock the World: A Symposium Submitted by Warty (Australia), Jan 15, 2017 at 06:56 I more than welcome your optimism, your predictions, Dr Pipes, 'were it not that I have bad dreams'. In particular, the fact that the Supreme Court in the UK could well stymie Theresa May's hope for a 'hard Brexit', that she could indeed be forced to take it to the House of Commons, which has more than its fair share of 'Remainers'; that even the House of Lords might muddy the waters to the point that what is left is a soggy dish cloth, not a 'hard Brexit' at all. Then there is the fact that Norbert Hofer lost ground in the presidential rerun in December. I don't follow the Austrian media, but my feeling is that his FPO lost momentum, and indeed, people of a timid disposition tend to get cold feet if left to think too long. I hope I don't fall into that category, because I know what I'd vote, were I in Britain, or Austria, or Holland, or France, but I'm not and can only look on.
