"The Arab Awakening" by George AntoniusReader comment on item: The Most Embarrassingly Wrong Book Ever on the Middle East? Submitted by Dave, Aug 27, 2017 at 09:10 This is a popular classic that badly needs debunking. Written by a Christian, the book shows zero understanding of Islam's crucial influence in determining events, particularly in the conflict with Zionism, where the author's facile assumptions scapegoat Europeans and Jews for all the misfortunes of the hapless Arab victims. I can certainly understand its appeal to anti-Western academics today, but subsequent events show it to be woefully naïve. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
