Let Juncker lead Europe straight to hell; and let Erdogan do the same with TurkeyReader comment on item: Saving NATO from Turkey Submitted by Michael S (United States), Oct 21, 2017 at 08:03 Hi, Dave "We need to look elsewhere for solid partners: the Visegrad countries (Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia), Greece, Cyprus, India and Israel for starters. Western Europe is too decadent." What are we looking for "solid partners" for? Since Trump took office, we have essentially been fighting against only one foe, ISIS. Our "partners" in this fight were the Kurds, whom we have pretty much abandoned, now that ISIS is defeated, Russia, Syria, Hizbullah, Iraq and Iran. Turkey has belatedly come on board as well, now that the Kurds have replaced ISIS as "the enemy". NATO has been playing a vanishingly small role in this endeavor, as has Israel. Yes, you read me right: We are allied with Iran, against the Kurds and against Israel. Trump can make as many speeches as he wants; and Congress can call anyone they want "terrorists"; but the reality on the ground, is that we are allied with Turkey, Russia and Iran. That being the case, what is the value of NATO? of the NORTH ATLANTIC Treaty Organization? Just look at that moniker: It is from the days when the "great divide" in Europe ran down the middle of Germany and Austria, down to Yugoslavia. The great divide of Europe today is between the UK and the EU; and leaders like Juncker are doing their damndest to make that divide as deep as possible. Europe is a mess; and Donald Trump can't be expected to single-handedly fix it; especially when he is beset on every side with violent enemies, right here in the US. Let the Europeans, Russians and Turks take care of what is left of ISIS. We have a much more pressing problem on our hands, if we can ever get past sex scandals and phony "Russian collusion" probes at home, dealing with a dangerous, psychopathic Kim Jong Un. Let's go after Kim, and let NATO go to hell -- all except the Brits and Canadians, who ARE natural US allies -- them, the ANZACs and the Japanese. Oh, and Israel will be calling for help soon enough, when the Turks and Iranians attack them. Even without our help, I expect the Israelis to make mincemeat of them.
