Dear Dr. PipesReader comment on item: Saving NATO from Turkey Submitted by Debanjan Banerjee (India), Oct 22, 2017 at 04:03 Dear Dr. Pipes, I do have my own understanding of the current discourse between Turkey(and Iran) and the US. I surely have a plan to bring long-term peace between the West and Turkey/Iran. Here are the following aspects of the plan. 1. The US needs to get out of the notion of being the only military hegemonic power in the region. This is not 1990 or 2003. As the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have proved, the US military power projection has never ever solved any problem in the region. Therefore the US should shut out the military option permanently from her policy toolkit. 2. A recognition of the role of Turkey/Iran to be of sovereign nations and treat them as co-equal powers. The US would henceforth hand over her security responsibilities in the region to Turkey and Iran. In exchange both Turkey and Iran should recognize Israel. I believe the recognition of Israel is the main objective of the US in the whole region and henceforth once Turkey and Iran recognizes Israel there will be no need for the US to continue her military responsibilities in the region. These are my ideas for long-term peace in the region. What are your views on my ideas for peace in the region ?
