For a blessingReader comment on item: NYT: Richard Pipes, Historian of Russia and Reagan Aide, Dies at 94 Submitted by Paul Donnelly (United States), May 23, 2018 at 06:07 Words fail in such circumstances, much less a stretch like this, but it's meant sincerely: When I talk to folks about how technology changes the paradigm these days, I often use the example of Kodak -- they actually invented digital photography, after all. Yet there used to be these things called cameras, which used something called film -- it was a huge industry, that Kodak dominated. But somehow, even though they invented the digital form of what replaced them, it still swept them away. Your Dad was actually my first experience with that sorta thing. I first read his work in the early 1980s, when I was a rookie (and very junior) aide to a freshman Senator. He wrote about the eventual fate of the Soviet Union, that one day it would just fall apart. In my mind, in my early 20s, I just scoffed: yeah, like that was gonna happen. He'll be remembered for a blessing.
