Richard Pipes' Extraordinary Contributions

Dear Daniel: I am sorry to learn about your father's passing. Dr. Richard Pipes had such a significant and long-lasting impact on the course of history -- especially, for those oppressed in the former Soviet Union and Central Europe. During the Reagan Administration, he was the architect of many crucial U.S. policies toward Moscow. He will be long remembered for his brilliant contributions. It was a privilege for me to work with him at the National Security Council and to get to know him as a wonderful human being. I will miss him. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
