Richard Pipes - a life of purpose and meaning

My sincere condolences to you on your father's passing, Daniel. Reading about his pivotal role during the Reagan era in the NYT obituary brought to mind an economics class taught by Prof. Norman A. Bailey during my master's program at IWP.

Prof. Bailey's monograph, "The Strategic Plan that Won the Cold War, National Security Decision Directive 75" afforded those of us in the program a rare opportunity to hear a first-person account from someone who played his part during those tense and historically significant times.

I think of it because Prof. Bailey listed your father's name among the few he thanked in his acknowledgments. What a proud legacy for your family knowing that your father had such a positive impact on the course of history for our country.
