Travel companions

The analyses of Mr. Pipes are always worth reading and his visits to the European politicians were wholly legitimate. His travel companions, however, are another matter. Katie Hopkins lost well-paid jobs for the Sun, LBC and the Daily Mail Online for her choice of language. She refused to settle a libel case out of court for £5000 and instead had to pay £25,000 plus legal costs of £107,000 plus her own costs (estimated at £300,000).

She also campaigns vainly to stop the teaching of Welsh to children in Wales, claiming that it is "forcing a dead language down the throats of children." In fact, there are well over half a million Welsh speakers and a recent estimate claims that the number has increased by over 100,000 during the last decade. As a Welsh speaker myself (a Welsh native who took the trouble to learn to speak and write it fluently), I find such behavior particularly foolish and obnoxious.

As for Robinson, Americans neither know nor make any effort to understand the sub judice rules of English law. Robinson's behavior in both cases against him threatened to derail grooming gang trials and let the defendants all go free. Several right-wing UK commentators have tried to point this out to the Americans, but go unheard. For example, Melanie Phillips on "The Tommy Robinson circus of fools" (August 2, 2018).
