Civilizationist parties make me uneasy, but...Reader comment on item: Europe's Jews vs. Israel Submitted by Jan (United States), Mar 14, 2019 at 15:27 Civilizationist parties make me uneasy, but at least they appear logical: Jews are largely gone from post WWII Europe; battle won. So why not tone down the Jew-hatred? Leftist Europeans, on the other hand, are terrifying in their pursuit of Jews to the ends of the earth, i.e., to faraway Israel. Theodor Herzl would be turning over in his grave to see that a Jewish State was an illusory solution; it was only Act I. As for Muslim Jew-hatred, this has been very largely abetted by classic European antisemitism. As for Jewish Europeans siding with their enemies, this is too deep a phenomenon and goes back too far to crack. I'm not convinced it's conceived as a protective strategy. In late 1930s Germany, there were Jews throwing all their energies into helping the poor.
