Recently, a university student (either chinese or of chinese extraction) undressed in class when giving a presentation. This was supposedly done to protest her professor's chastising her choice of clothes.

Do you suppose she would have done this in China? Of course not, because there, students are expected to respect the university and their lecturers, whereas in America, it's the other way around. I get the impression American students imagine the university exists for their sake, that it must cater to them and that the professors must pander to them.

This might be part of the fall-out of the events you describe.
