The Dream Palace of the LiberalsReader comment on item: [Bureaucratic Leftism and] Globalthink's Perils Submitted by Ben Shniper (United States), Sep 24, 2002 at 17:05 We are all brothers, really. All humans (of the same sex) are more than 99% identical twins by genetic makeup. We must all learn to get along and be kind to each other, not try to destroy human life with bombs, whether dropped out of a B-52 or ignited by a suicidal freedom fighter. We should all come together as one.Or at least that's what I hear all the time from the pro-Arafat crowd. How did a terrorist preaching Jihad and death to Zionists come to embody liberal thinking? How does he command the rapt continued attention of the Nobel Peace Prize committee? I think I know. It's the old dream of "everything would be perfect if humanity came together in unity". It's unlikely that everything would be perfect, but if humanity came together in the right way, it could be better. Or, if it came together as it is now, it would be worse, because it might come together in a violent struggle for power, purity, and existance. World War II was not caused only by cynical dictators grabbing power, but also by appeasing governments professing their intent to prevent war. World War III already has all the elements it needs: Saddam Huessein or Khomeni or China, grabbing Nepal or Kuwait or Afghanistan, backed up by the EU or UN or Russia, with appeasement or isolation from the rest of the world, followed by future power grabs as well. Israel or America could be the trigger if they decided to swallow various countries whole as well. I see this increasing instability and I wonder if it won't soon be a fight between the UN and the US, or between the West and Islam, or just a nuclear war in India or the Middle East. I think we got through the first test of 9-11, but I see more problems on the horizon. And whatever we face, buerocratic leftists will be in our way in fighting it. -Ben Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
