Temple Mount and fund raising campaign for the Ayodhya Ram templeReader comment on item: Israel and the Temple Mount's Five Muslim Rivals Submitted by Prashant (United States), Mar 13, 2021 at 01:19 Dear Dr Pipes, The siege of Jerusalem by Muslims occurred in the years 636-637 of the common era. Just 50 odd years after that Muslim not only established control over Jerusalem but also -true to their modus operendi- established a Mosque at one of the holiest sites of Judaism. Why doesn't the world oppose this Muslim disgrace? Muslims showed this exact method of subjugation of others not just in Jerusalem but also in Spain, and in countless places in India. And, they must have done the same thing in Medina and Mecca and throughout the middel east, North Africa, and Persia (but there are no non-Muslims left alive to tell the tale in these regions). You have written about Ayodhya, the birth place of Hindu god Rama (Ram Janmabhoomi), on DanialPipes.org. Muslims attacked Ayodhya several centuries ago and the Islamic invader Babar built a Mosque in Ayodhya as well. Hindus of India fought a legal battle for almost a century and finally won the rights to build a temple at the disputed site. Prior to that in 1992, some Hindu mobs attacked and destroyed the Islamic Mosque built at the site several centuries ago. I am not reciting the above story to approve the mob action in India. No ancient structures --even Islamic-- should be destroyed by force. I am writing this story to highlight another important fact. It is often not easy to estimate the harm that Muslim invaders did to the local people. But, a simple example will give the readers some idea: A crowd funded campaign was started in India to fund the construction of the replacement Ram temple. The campaign ended when twice as much money as targeted was raised in a matter of few short months. A total of USD 333 Million (25000 milllion Indian Rupees) were raised by the campaign. So strong are the sentiments of the people whom Islam tried to destroy! Breaking buildings is not a good idea. There is no need to destroy the Islamic structure near the site of Temple Mount. But also, there is absolutely no reason to assume that Muslims have a God-given right on any piece of land that usurped by violence. Jews, Christians and the pagans have more right on Mecca than Muslims have on Jerusalem. The world must demand that Muslims apologize for the history that they created. Islamic history cannot be erased but it must be criticized and despised. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
