Mr. Erdoğan's "What Our Religion Tells Us" - Unique Unto Himself

Reader comment on item: The Religious Roots of Turkey's Currency Crisis

Dr. Pipes's analysis of failure here pinpoints a problem that Erdoğan's attempts to lead Turkey into some Islamic utopian frontiere is misguided at best and unsurvivable in the long term approach of preventing a total collapse. If there is to be a sample successful Islamic politcal enterprise, the Saudi's or the UAE are better samples since they were 'created' from a non-Islamic basis of ecominic culture; coming from the collapse of the Ottoman regime. Finding oil in the land of Teman and nomadic bedouin sands in the 1920's did not hurt either.
Religion as a basis for an ecominoc model has been proven to be inconsistent over the centuries, something that maybe Western culture did contribute to bringing empires out of the dark ages and into modern governmental model that found out controlling the rich required controlling the backs. This is seen in how the Rothschilds and later the American Federal Reserve System brought about burgeoning economical success that formed around the collpase of empires and funded the republican societies to fume over taxes today.
Erdoğan needs to reread Turkey's history and try not to let his pride take Turkey back into the dark ages. Even the Iranian Islamic Regime knows this and could/would teach Turkey a lesson or two about how to cajole finances from the West. Being part of NATO should have taught that lesson; Erdoğan isn't listening.
