Certain choices must be withdrawn from MuslimsReader comment on item: The Religious Roots of Turkey's Currency Crisis Submitted by Prashant (United States), Jan 4, 2022 at 11:28 Dear Dr Pipes, thanks to reader Jeff for providing a very apt quote of Victor Davis Hanson. Indeed, 'antidemocratic and medieval forces of tribalism, authoritarian traditionalism and Islamic fundamentalism' thought patterns of Islamic mindset need to be demolished. But, the world is running out of time and cannot wait for Muslims to bring these changes about themselves; the world must demand good behavior from Muslims. Certain choices need to be withdrawn from Muslims. Let me elaborate. Separation of church and state (and separation of church and politics) is not something that Islam-occupied nations can make a choice about. It is their obligation. If the state advances a religion, it automatically prohibits free thought and that is unacceptable. Period. If Muslim politicians speak too much about Islam, they should be frowned upon. If Muslim people demand different treatment in democratic societies, they should be opposed. Statements like 'Muslims allowed religious freedom to Jews during the golden age of Islam' should be exposed for their inherent absurdity (at least in the modern context). Wars of freedom that are fundamentally linked to a religion, should not be supported. Muslim societies have no self-imposed discipline to choose egalitarianism. They should be intellectually forced to choose it. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
