JCPOA: The Elephant in the ROOMReader comment on item: The Need for a Focus on Western Islamism Submitted by Ludvikus (United States), Feb 6, 2022 at 13:23 Dear David, I hope you don't mind if I put in my 2-cents in place of Dr. Pipes, while you are waiting for his response? I think you are overlooking the so-called, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. It was under our Obama's administration that the world "solved" the problem of a Nuclear Iran. President Trump thought the deal shortchanged the world, under under his constitutional authority, pulled the USA out of it. But President Biden's "solution" - which is in negotiations currently - is to return us to this deal. That deal is to be determined, one way, or another, in the next 3 or so weeks, because nuclear break-out is fast approaching so that this deal will no longer be viable. "Unfortunately," Putin has now distracted the world with his 100,000 or so troops on the border of Ukraine. I anticipate a war soon - but not over Ukraine - but over Iran. One reason for that belief is that the Religious Ayatollah of Iran is dumb, while Putin is a master chess-player - if only he's not distracted by his strong Russian Nationalism that could lead to Economic disaster for Russia, and Russian boy bags arriving in Moscow; if anything happens regarding Ukraine, I think it may be that Putin fails to recognize Ukrainian Nationalism and their own view of a Soverign and Independent Ukraine, irrespective of the mutual history at the time of Kievan Rus'. So I think your question to Dr. Pipes should be weather Ukraine will distract the world from Iran and its break-out time for acquiring Nuclear Bomb Technology.
