Memo to Israel: encourage Islamic Jihad and Hamas to fight each otherReader comment on item: Further on Israel's Winning Its War Submitted by Dr RJP (United States), Apr 7, 2006 at 15:53 Right now, Israel has a golden opportunity to stoke the fires that exist between Islamic Jihad and Hamas. Rather than targeted killings by individuals who openly identify themselves as the IDF, the Mossad could be carrying out covert operations to make it seem like an all-out civil war has erupted.Which is better: having both monsters kill each other, or having both join forces to kill Israelis? A turf war would be the best thing that could possibly happen: 1. It eliminates terrorists without shedding Israeli blood to do so. 2. It prevents Hamas from forming a functional terrorist state. 3. It exposes Palestinians as incapable of self-rule AND living in peace among themselves -- even if Israel did not exist! 4. The "moderate Palestinians" -- those who are tired of fighting -- will come running to Israel for help because no outside Arab nation is going to objectively adjudicate between them. Iran backs Hamas while Egypt backs Islamic Jihad. Israel need not worry about being blamed for the conflict because both groups know they did not start it, and they have no love for either group. How about that strategy? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
